Imphal, February 26 2011:
Decrying alleged silence of the State Government over the fate of Longjam Suresh Singh whose whereabouts remains unknown after he had been picked by suspected Army personnel from his Top Siphai Makha Leikai residence on the intervening night of February 18 and 19, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has demanded the Government for ensuring safe release of Suresh.
In a statement, information and publicity secretary of UCM Kh Nilamani Kha-Nganba observed that enforced disappearance of arrested people may not be new in Manipur, but the failure of knowing the whereabouts of Suresh even after Ch Manglemba who was arrested along with Suresh was set free indicate the inherent weakness of the State Government over resolving such cases.
As a responsible Government, it should find out whereabouts of Suresh and ensure his release at the earliest possible, UCM demanded, while announcing its decision of supporting any agitation launched by the JAC over the issue.
