Ready to launch agitation if Government fails to renovate sports complex: Ibomcha

With the Government yet to take up any renovative measures, Hemam Nilamni Ngangkha Lampak Sports Complex, Moirang could not be used as a playground after it was used as helipad last year in connection with the Manipur Sangai Festival, 2017.Denouncing the failure to renovate the complex, its vice president, Moirangthem Ibomcha has warned of agitation if the Government fails to do necessary renovation and restructuring work by October 15 this year.
He was speaking at a felicitation programme of athletes of Kumam Nupamacha Singh Athletic Academy at Moirang Konung today.
It may be mentioned that Kumam Nupamacha Singh Athletic Academy won maximum medals at the 38th State Age Group Athletic Championship 2018 held from October 5 to 7 at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
Kumam Gopal Singh, ex-MLA Moirang AC; Kumam Nupamacha Singh, NIS Coach, veteran Asian Gold Medallist; Th Shanti Singh; Leishangthem Ajit Singh, president, Manipur Athletic Association; K Bimol Singh, former president, All India Youth Federation were also present as presidium members besides M Ibomcha.
Speaking on the occasion, M Ibomcha remarked that the sports complex, which is a hard earned asset developed with the support and encouragement of peoples residing in Moirang area, was used as a helipad for President Ram Nath Kovind's helicopter who arrived here for inauguration of last year's Manipur Sangai Festival.
The sports complex was left ruined and dilapidated after the festival though Forest Minister, Shyamkumar assured that the complex would be repaired when locals and those who are managing the complex approached him.
What is saddening is that the Government had not paid any attention towards restructuring the playground after it has been left abandoned and ruined for almost a year, he added and further warned that a series of agitation will be launched if the Government does not initiate due process to repair the complex by October 15.Th Shanti who was among the presidium members sought help on Kumam Nupamacha Singh Athletic Academy's behalf to accommodate a lodging place for the athletes of the academy which is facing shortage, at the sports complex and further maintained that academy will be registered very soon.
