Imphal, March 11 2014 :
District Sports Association, Thoubal and Imphal West District Football Association entered the final of the 17th Sub-Junior Boys' Inter-District Football championship in contrasting styles, with the former edging past Imphal East District Football Association by a margin of 2 goals to one while in the latter IWDFA whacked District Sports Association, Kakching by a huge margin of 10 goals to one.
In the first match of the day played today, DSA Bishnupur and IEDFA took the field wary of the strength and weaknesses of each other.
DSA Bishnupur had better ball domination in the opening minutes of the game and with better co-ordination and team work started raiding the citadel of IEDFA.
Dominating the midfield and making inroads from either side of the flank, the boys from Thoubal capitalised on a defensive lapse, when N Maheschand latched onto the ball near the top of the penalty box and let loose a powerful shot which disturbed the net of the IEDFA to go one up in the 14th minute.
The reversal did not dampen the spirit of the boys from Imphal East and they went all out to restore parity, finding the gaps on a couple of occasions.
However the defence line of DSA Thoubal stood firm, not yielding an inch.
Lemon break was taken with the boys from Thoubal leading by a solitary goal.
After the break, there was more purpose in the approach from the boys of Imphal East and they started making inroads into the defence line of DSA Thoubal.
The relentless onslaught finally paid off when Dipu banged home the ball in the 57th minute to bring his team back into the game.
With neither team giving an inch it was a see saw battle of skills and team work and when it looked like the game was headed for a one all draw, L Tomba of DSA Thoubal sprang a surprise and found the target in the 79th minute to seal the match.
In the second semi-final of the day, it was IWDFA all the way with the players scoring at will.
The floodgates opened as early as the 10th minute when CH Kemson found the target and followed it up with another one in the 12th minute.
Sh Netrajit then came into his own and scored four times in the 25th, 35th, 52nd and 70th minute to literally take the match away from the Kakching boys.
N Dinku, Kh Johen, L Manish, and N Ajitkumar also scored to complete the rout.
