Charenamei highest spender in last LS poll

PDA candidate Mani Charenamei spent the most in the 15th Lok Sabha election held in 2009.He spent more than Rs 17 lakh while Congress candidates Thangso Baite and Dr Th Meinya expended over Rs 13 lakh each.
On the other hand, there was just one crorepati MLA among all the candidates of the State Assembly election in 2007 but the figure has jumped to 16 in 2012 .
According to expenditure reports submitted by concerned Returning Officers to the Election Commission, former MP Mani Charenamei spent Rs 17,29,409 which was the highest expenditure made by a candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha election of Manipur.
Congress candidate Thangso Baite came second by spending Rs 13,15,568 followed by NCP's LB Sona with a total expenditure of Rs 12,65,348 .
Expenditure figures for other candidates were Rs 6,53,205 for Loli Adani (BJP), Rs 3,53,412 for Valley Rose (Independent), Rs 12,40,751 for RJD and Rs 1,81,400 for Rose Mangshi (Independent) .
In Inner Manipur P/C, late Wahengbam Nipamacha made the highest expenditure at Rs 16,68,340 .
With a total expenditure of Rs 14,14,498, CPI's Dr Nara occupied the second position.
INC's Dr Th Meinya came third with a total expenditure of Rs 13,89,610 .
Expenditure figures for other candidates were Rs 7,13,966 for Abdul Rehman, Rs 4,55,285 for N Homendro and Rs 11,29,132 for Th Chaoba.
Affidavit analysis of the 60 MLAs elected in 2012 by an NGO called Association for Democratic Reforms found that 16 MLAs are crorepatis.
The corresponding figure in 2007 was just one.
