Imphal, January 24 2014 :
Tejbanta's four wicket burst, conceding only 13 runs coupled with a cameo of 13 runs off 9 balls ensured a comfortable 8 wicket victory for his team CHAMP against REYS in the ongoing 11th Manipur Veteran Cricket Championship.
Winning the toss, REYS opted to bat and despite fine contributions from Sanjit with 37 runs off 24 balls, 25 runs off 45 balls from Anil, 15 runs off 24 balls from Mujibur and 12 runs off 24 balls from Tombi were bundled out for 140 thanks to a sterling performance with the ball by Tejbanta, who scalped 4 wickets and conceded only 13 runs.
Keeping a good line and length, Tejbanta managed to extract swings from the track to repeatedly beat the batsmen of REYS and in the process walked away with four wickets.
He was ably aided by Ratan who also returned an impressive figure of 3 wickets.
Tejbanta also chipped with a breezy knock of 13 runs off only 9 balls to take the game away from REYS.
Set a target of 141, the batsmen CHAMP did not have much of a problem in reaching it, losing only two wickets on the way to victory.
For CHAMP, Ibobi led the way with a breezy 42 runs off 45 balls, followed by Mohen with 39 runs off 63 balls and Ninghor with 19 runs off 27 balls.
The REYS bowlers never got into the rhythm failing to read the track and delivering a number of loose balls.
The batsmen from CHAMP capitalised on the poor bowling and repeatedly found the gaps on either side of the wicket.
All the loose balls were despatched to the boundary without much ado.
In sum it was the bat dominating the ball in the case of CHAMP while in the case of REYS it was the ball dominating the bat.
Samu and Krishnan were the only two from REYS to be among the wicket takers, while the other bowlers returned empty handed to hand the match over to CHAMP.
The tournament is being organised by the Manipur Veteran Cricket Association, Imphal, which is affiliated to the Board for Veteran Cricket in India.
Tomorrow IWVCA will take on Model Club.
