20 submit forms for RS election

Out of 21 persons who collected application forms for selection as Congress nominee for the State's lone Rajya Sabha seat, 20 submitted their filled-in forms to MPCC till January 19 which was the last date for submission of application forms.
Sitting MLA L Nandakumar and former MP Wahengbam Angou are among the 20 persons in fray.
Election of a new Rajya Sabha MP has been necessitated as the term of the incumbent MP expires on April 9 this year.
Notably, sitting MP Rishang Keishing has already made it clear that he would not seek a third term as the State's lone representative in the Rajya Sabha.
It has been already notified that January 28 is the last date for submission of nomination papers to the concerned Returning Officer.
As such, who would be selected as Congress nominee would be known in the next couple of days.
According to information available with the press, MLA Laishram Nandakumar elected from Uripok AC has a fair chance of being selected as the Congress nominee.
In connection with the poll for election of a new Rajya Sabha Member scheduled on February 7, Chief Minister O Ibobi and MPCC president Gaikhangam left Imphal for New Delhi this afternoon at AICC's invitation.
However, they came back from Guwahati as the AICC meeting scheduled tomorrow has been postponed to January 27 .
