Medical team to Myanmar flagged off

A 43-member team comprising of 13 doctors, paramedics and Rotary Club of Imphal volunteers will leave Imphal for Kalay tomorrow to conduct a free medical camp at the Myanmarese city on January 26.The team was formally flagged off by Tourism Parliamentary Secretary M Prithviraj from Manipur Press Club today.
Apart from organising the camp, Rotary Club of Imphal will also donate an ultrasound machine with printer worth around Rs 3 lakh to Health Centre, Kalay.
Moreover, medicines worth around Rs 8 to Rs 10 lakh would be distributed free of cost to patients at the camp.
Around 1000 patients will be examined during the camp, which will provide testing facility of diabetes, HIV, Hep C and Hep B etc.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, M Prithviraj urged all concerned to put in collective effort to develop medical tourism in the State.
He said that while different medical teams travel to Myanmar to conduct health camps from time to time, many Myanmarese patients also come to Manipur to get treatment.
As such, the State has the potential to develop medical tourism with the enhancement of relation with the neighbouring country.
If medical practitioners work with dedication, people of the State would not need to go to other States for treatment, he added.
Rotary Club of Imphal secretary Dr N Sanjib and president Dr H Priyosakhi were also present at the flagging off ceremony.
