Meet calls for scrapping AFSPA

Imphal, January 24 2014 :
Call for protecting the rights of indigenous people and the demand for immediate scrapping of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) echoed at a day-long consultation programme held at the conference of Trade Centre, Moreh today.

Held with the key objective of taking a clear position of all the community leaders on AFSPA, the consultation on 'UN Declaration of Rights of the Indigenous People and Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958' was organised jointly by Hill Tribal Council, Moreh and Zougam Institute for Community Resource Development (ZICORD) with Secretary of Women Action for Development (WAD) Sobita Mangsatabam, Secretary of ZICORD Peter Zamhen, Executive Director of Human Rights Alert Babloo Loitongbam, Chaoba Takhelchangbam and Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (English) Satyajit Usham as resource persons.
During the consultation, two victims of AFSPA also gave their testimonial.
