Hosts Kerala outsmarted defending champions Manipur to lift the Fifth Senior Women National Boxing Championship that concluded at Kollam today.
The hosts State culled 37 points as Manipur was relegated to second position with 34 points followed by Assam (26 pts) in the third place.
While the star-studded Manipur finished the championship with three gold, two silver and equal number of bronze medals with its top boxers scoring convincing score margins against their rivals two up-coming women pugilists were subdued by Kerala and Andhra Pradesh boxers in the final bouts.
World championship winner MC Mary Kom exhibited her class and maintained the unbeaten record in national level competitions by outpointing Roshni Bushal of Meghalaya 23-10 in the 46 kg category.
International L Sarita also preserved her supremacy in 54 kg class by scoring 14 points to six victory as her State-mate T Shandhyarani overcame Kalpana Choudhury of Assam 23-10.In 52 kg final, K Mandakini of Manipur lost to Lushof of Andhra Pradesh 9-15 with Joymati humbled 27-3 by Asarji Aswal of Kerala in 57 kg.
