Imphal, December 30:
Members of the North East TV producers and directors' association (Manipur chapter) today demonstrated at the gate of Doordarshan Kendra Imphal as a mark of protest against the Prasar Bharati Broadcasting Corporation India (PBBCI) decision to prescribe Hindi language as a mandatory language in production of commissioned programmes for the year 2004-2005.It may be noted here that Programme Production Centre (PCC) Guwahati under the policy of PBBCI on December 8 had notified inviting proposals for making programmes under commissioned category for 2004-05 from private producers in making long running fiction based serials only in Hindi and non fiction based programmes only in Hindi and English.
Talking to mediapersons, renowned film maker Aribam Shyam Sharma who also took part in the demonstration opined that making Hindi language mandatory in producing such programmes is not only discouraging but also an insult to the regional dialects of the region.
Even though Hindi dialect is very popular among the masses, the language is not very comfortably spoken by the people in this region, said Shyam adding that imposing Hindi dialect on local artistes who are not very fluent in Hindi will distort the dramatic flow of the story.
