6th Sadar Hills Veteran Sports Meet 2019 kicks off

The 6th edition of Sadar Hills Veteran Sports Meet 2019 organized by Sadar Hills District Sports Veteran Association Manipur (SHDSVAM) kicked off today at M Thomas ground, Kangpokpi DHQs.
The inaugural ceremony of the sports meet was graced by Sanjay Sharma, proprietor and manager, Satyam Steel Industries, Taphou Kuki, Kangpokpi district, Lenkhomang Chongloi, ex-MDC, chief of Taphou Kuki and Lunseh Kipgen, chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee as the dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, SHDSVAM advisor Chongpu Kipgen said that Sadar Hills Veteran Sports Meet was introduced in 2013 with the intention to bring peace, harmony and understanding among various communities in the district through games and sports.
The sports meet was opened by Sanjay Sharma by kicking the ball inside the pitch while the invocation prayer was performed by Rev Thangboi David, KTC Member (Youth Affairs) .
The inaugural match of the meet was played between Kanggui Veteran (host) and Liyai Kongpao Liyai Kalapahar Veteran while the second match was played between Motbung Veteran and K Molpi (Thangkan) Veteran.
In the maiden match of the meet, Kanggui Veteran started with an impressive attacking form and found the opening goal through Mangkai Changsan in the 22nd minute.
Haominthang Khongsai added another goal in the 28th minute to lead the first half with two goals.
The players of Liyai Kongpao Liyai Kalapahar Veteran fought tooth and nail in the second half and found their opener when W Ethai scored a brilliant goal from zero angles, however, Kanggui Veteran added another goal through its captain Len Doungel in the stoppage time of 59th minute to register its first win in the tournament by 3-1.In the second match, Motbung Veteran had a narrow 1-0 win over K Molpi (Thangkan) Veteran with a goal from Ngamgougin in the 30th minute.
Altogether 17 teams from various places across the district are participating in the tournament which bears a cash rewards of Rs 50,000 with trophy for the champion and Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 along with a trophies for the runner up, third place and fourth place respectively.
J Songtun Area Veteran will meet Vengthah Veteran, Kangpokpi at 11:30 am, Saparmeina Area Veteran will play FC Tahchapa, Leimakhong in the second match at 1:30 pm and KMC Veteran will battle Tujanglhang Veteran at 3:00 pm tomorrow.
