Certificate course on 'Basics of News Reporting' begins at Chandel

The State Institute of Journalism (SIJ), Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) has launched the two weeks certificate course on "Basics of News Reporting" at United College, Chandel today.
The inaugural function was attended by TS Willingson, ADC member, District Headquarter, Chandel; W Phajatombi (MCS), Jt Director, IPR; and Dr BD Thumdal as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
TS Willingson, the chief guest of the programme, said that the role of media is very important.
"Media and especially DIPR disseminate information of various public welfare schemes currently launched by the Government to the public.
Proper awareness is needed so that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries", he said.
The president of the function, W Phajatombi Devi, Joint Director, IPR informed the trainees about the different courses SIJ has been conducting since its inception and highlighted the benefits of the students, who undergo such courses.
Dr BD Thumdal, the Principal of United College, expressed his gratitude for conducting such a course in Chandel District.
The inaugural function was also attended by officials of DIPR including Snehprabha Sagolsem, District Information Officer, DIPR and staff of United College and trainees of the course.
The course will conclude on March 9 while two practicing journalists affiliated with Manipur Hill Journalists Union have been engaged as resource persons for the course.
30 trainees enrolled themselves for the two weeks course.
