Host Manipur stormed into the quarter final round in the ongoing XI sub-junior national hockey championship here at Khuman Lampak.
In the pre-quarter finals today, eight lucky team including host Manipur pushed their rivals out of the championship to enter quarter final round to be played tomorrow.
Hosts Manipur defeated Chhatisgarh by 7 goals to 1 while Uttar Pradesh beat Karnataka by 6 goals to 5 goals, Namdhari defeated Hyderabad by 2 goals to nil, Punjab blanked Bengal by 6 goals, Orissa blanked Tamil Nadu by 7 goals, Himachal Pradesh beat Mizoram by 4 goals to 1 and Andhra Pradesh blanked Uttaranchal by 4 goals.
The match between Manipur and Chhatisgarh was lopsided as home side's aggressiveness made the rival team helpless to counter with.
Kh Kothajit opened Manipur's account in 8th minute by converting a long pass from centre into goal.
Five minutes later L Bikramjit netted a penalty corner.
K Chinglensana netted twice in 15th and 27th minute leading 4-0 by the end of first half.
As soon as the whistle blow for the second half Kothajit wasted no time to score another goal through a penalty corner in 36th minute.
O Boniyam scored sixth goal in two minutes later which was followed by Kothajit at the same interval of time (2 minutes) to score seventh goal for Manipur.
Even as Chhatisgarh tried every possible effort to find a reducer they could not to do so.
However their efforts bear fruitful only in 56th minute when Md Shahbaag netted a pass from his teammate Upender Kumar.
The keenly contested match so far in the championship was witnessed at the match between Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka as Karnataka was out of the tournament by a margin of single goal.
