Imphal, February 11:
The State Cabinet has given its approval in principal to recognise Vaiphei and Kom dialects during a sitting today.
The sitting of the Cabinet , presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, however, deferred the proposal for setting up a Block Development office at Sangaikot for further discussion till the next meeting.
It is believed that, by giving due recognition, text books written in the two dialects will be brought out from the primary school level, which will give a big boost to the development of Vaiphei and Kom literature.
There are in all 32 officially recognised tribes in Manipur.
Out of these, the dialects of Tangkhul, Hmar, Zou, Thadou (Kuki), Paite and Mizo tribes have been already recognised by the Government.
With regard to the proposal for converting the existing SDC office, a revenue department, at Sangaikot under Singhat Assembly Constituency as a Block Development Office, the Cabinet felt that it would a more appropriate to defer the agenda for further discussion in the next sitting.
The agenda put up by Transport Department with regard to revising the fare of passenger vehicles and hiring charges, the meeting decided to give a serious thought and discussion on the matter after looking into all the relevant documents.
The Cabinet was unanimous on the urgency for hiking the fare and hiring charges of passenger vehicles in view of the prevailing financial condition in the State.
But it strongly felt that the matter should be discussed taking into account the reports and datas of the existing structure of the fare and hiring wages in other States.
According, Transport Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat and Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi were given the responsibility for providing the required datas and reports.
