Former international class archer and archery coach in the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports Bachaspatimayum Basanti Devi passed away on April 6 evening following a fatal cardiac arrest at the Sega Road Khwairakpam leikai residence of her husband K Khogen Singh.
Multiple medal winner in national level competitions in between 1978 and 1987, Basanti represented the country in the Spring arrow Competition at Moscow in 1982 in addition to being a member of the Indian archery team at the 9th Asian Games held in 1982 at Delhi.
She was the first international archer of Manipur.
Enrolled as a coach of SAI (New delhi) in 1986, Basanti d/o of B Mani sharma of Brahmapur Nahabam was born on February 18, 1963, and is the force behind establishment of Best Arrow Shooter an archery club affiliated to Manipur Archery Association for which she was also the joint secretary till she breathed her last.
She is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter.
On her untimely demise, Manipur Olympic Association, Manipur rifle Association (MRA's Life Member), Coaches' Association of YAS, Directorate of YAS and Manipur Archery Association conveyed their condolences to members of the bereaved family.
