Imphal, January 29 2016 :
Some cattle have died in Khumbong in Imphal West district apparently due to foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the past one week, said a statement issued by Imphal West Students' Club (IWSC), Khumbong.
There are also reports of the disease spreading in the locality.
The club further said that the cattle owners have approached Khumbong Veterinary Hospital for help.
However, they were told that no vaccine/medicine is available in the hospital.
The club urged the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department to take up immediate measures to prevent further spread of the disease at Khumbong and surrounding areas.
It also requested the Department to instruct the Medical Officer and staff of Khumbong Veterinary Hospital to conduct a mass vaccination programme by supplying adequate medicines/vaccines of FMD, black quarter (BQ) and other contagious animal diseases.
