The Government of Manipur has proposed to discussed all issues related to import of rice from Myanmar during a meeting of the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of India scheduled tomorrow.
According to information received from the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Manipur, officials of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, which have denied issuing of import license to Manipur, are expected to attend the meeting.
Since the meeting would mainly discuss issues related to ongoing foreign trade of India with other countries, the Government of Manipur has proposed that the matter related to imposition of restriction on import of 30,000 metric tonne of rice from Myanmar without giving any reason after the permission had already been granted should be taken up for discussion, the source added.
