Election notification for local bodies for the term 2010-11 has been officially issued today by the Secretary, State Election Commission.
Apart from the Councillor, two representatives for Ward Development Committee will also be elected starting this term.
So, two different ballot papers and boxes will be used this time.
Secretary, State Election Commission, Th Chitra officially announced the election notification for the term 2010-11 for eight Municipal Councils excluding IMC and 18 Nagar Panchayats today in a press conference held at the office of the State Election Commission, Manipur at DC office, Lamphelpat.
She announced that elections for the said Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats will be held on January 3 2011 .
The last date for filing nomination papers for the said elections will be December 13.Scrutiny will be done on December 14 and withdrawal of candidature should be done by December 16 .
Election will be held on January 3 from 8 am to 4 pm.
Any repoll will be held on January 5 and counting of ballots will begin from January 7 .
Code of conduct for the said elections comes into immediate effect with the announcement of the election notification and the same has been intimated to concerned Returning Officers, she said.
According to the 'The Manipur Municipality Community Participation Act (Election of Ward Development Committee Members) Rule 2010' along with one Councillor and two members of Ward Development Committee will be elected from this term.
Thus, 279 Councilors and 558 members of Ward Development Council will be elected from eight Municipal Councils and 18 Nagar Panchayats which has 109 and 170 wards respectively.
Councillors will be the chairpersons for the Ward Development Committee and the two members along with two nominees from social organizations will be the members of the committee.
Election symbols will be used for the Councillors' election but no symbols will be used for the election of the two members.
The total number of voters for the election is 2,19,616 out of which 1,06,839 are male and 1,12,777 female.
The election will be held in 366 polling stations.
Every polling station will have five polling officials, she said.
However there is no report of sorting out sensitive and hypersensitive polling stations so far.
