Imphal, July 18 2009:
Five wooden shops were razed to ashes by a devastating fire last night around 10 at Moirang Bazar Thanga parking in Bishnupur district while three others have been saved by the fire brigade.
Grocery items worth over Rs 25 lakh have been reportedly lost.
The owner of the shops is one Mairembam (O) Maipak, wife of (L) M Khelendro.
She has been renting out the shops to local vendors.
The fire was believed to have originated from an electric short circuit.
The shops were rented by Kiyam Gobin of Moirang Kiyam Leikai, Konjengbam Romit of Mairembam Leikai, Haobijam Parimo of Yumkhaibam Leikai, Moirangthem Basanta of Kumam Leikai, and Konjengbam Santosh of Kumam Leikai, Moirang.
Meanwhile, the intervention of Fire Brigade had saved three other adjacent shops from being ruined.
