Imphal, July 18 2009:
Four FCI officials were reportedly abducted by NSCN (U) activists from Dimapur on alleged charge of conniving with the NSCN (IM) and indulging in corruption on the pretext of distributing PDS items to the people.
A spokesperson of NSCN (U) conveyed that the four FCI officials namely Manager L Nandakishore, Depot in-charge S Brajabidhu, Manager (Quality Control) Kamlakanta Sharma and T Ratan Singh who is the representative of contractor Aisui Muivah were abducted from Senti Hotel, Dimapur this morning.
The spokesperson said on September 30 last year, a tender was issued inviting contractors for transportation of PDS items.
However, NSCN (IM) summoned General Manager of FCI (Dimapur) MK Gogoi to Delhi and after snatching all the documents related to the tender forced announcement of Aisui Muivah as the contractor.
The officials who were present on the day of the tender should apologise to the people, the spokesperson said, while clarifying that abducted officials are innocent but their abduction was necessary as part of the investigation into the wrong doings of General Manager Gogoi and Manager Bhorot.
The current contractor is not qualified enough and handing over the task to sub-contractors is the main reason for the failure of reaching out the benefits of the PDS to the people, the spokesperson said, while warning FCI Dimapur Office of serious consequences if the existing system is not rectified.
