CPI to intensify struggle to repeal AFSPA

Communist Party of India (CPI) has resolved to intensify struggle to withdraw the controversial Armed Forces Special Power Act, (AFSPA) from the entire North East.
The decision came after Manipur CPI delegation led by Dr M Nara brought up the issue on the second day of the 22nd National Congress Meeting of CPI at Poduchery, which started on March 25.The meeting was attended by 800 CPI delegates from 25 States.
CPI Manipur State Council Secretary Dr Nara in his speech at the meet highlighted the appalling outcome of such a military Act enforced in NE.
He told the meet that lives of many innocent people have perished under the Act and blatant human rights violation is taking place in the region.
He also talked about the 14 years old fast-unto-death stir by Irom Chanu Sharmila demanding repeal of AFSPA, a release said.
