June Uprising survivor S Sobita passes away

Imphal, March 29 2015:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) on Sunday observed a two-minute silence at the committee office here to condole the untimely demise of Sorokhaibam Sobita Devi who was one of the survivors of the Great June 18 Uprising of 2001 .
Sobita died last night, UCM said in a statement.
She lost her right leg in an indiscriminate firing by security forces during the June 18 episode which killed 18 people.
Many social groups including UCM had been extending support to Sobita from time to time.
The UCM also honoured her on many occasions.
Sobita was brought to Kangleicha English School, Yairipok Bamon Leikai in Thoubal district by Kwai Ningshel Sintha Lup, Yairipok Bishnu Naha
on November 7, 2004 .
She had been taking shelter in a special room of the school since then.
The organisation and founder of the school had been generously helping Sobita in her treatment.
