Imphal, January 15, 2012:
A joint meeting of All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and editors has strongly condemned the conduct of the state police in entering offices of media houses and confiscating a 'press note' which was yet to be published and become a public property.
The Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) of the seven UG groups released a press note yesterday but a team of state police confiscated the copies of the said press note from all media houses.
The meeting strongly felt that it is the prerogative of the editors concerned to decide whether a press note should be carried or not and the conduct of the police in confiscating the press note which was yet to be published tantamount to pre-censorship.
The meeting also appealed to the authority of the state police department to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
