Save oil fortnight begins

The oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight of Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Imphal Divisional Office has been inaugurated today by CAF-&PD Director M Yaiskul Meitei as the chief guest.
The observance on the theme ‘Save Fuel Means Save Money' will continue till January 31 during which various events aimed at creating awareness on protecting the environment would be organised.
On the inaugural day of the observance a painting competition based on the said theme was organised for students in two categories, from class III to VI and from Class VII to X. About 100 student participants took part in the competition.
Presenting the key-note address at the inaugural function held at Hotel Nirmala, Corporation representative Dharambir Singh reminded all concerned that there is need for conservation of the essential fuel as sustaining development and survival of civilisation through out the globe depends on the availability of the fossil fuel.
Pointing out that oil and natural gas form nearly 42 percent of energy requirement in India, he explained that as formation of fossil fuel consumes several hundred years they are not easily replaceable.
Further highlighting that with the exception of 20 percent only rest of the fuel requirement for the country is met through import of oil, Dharambir said ensuring mobility of the country is taking a heavy toil on the national exchequer to the tune of Rs 2,05,316 crores annually.
speaking at the occasion, State Level Coordinator of the fortnight observance KI Singh emphasised on the need for economical usage of the existing petroleum products so that the country could reap long lasting benefit.
Apart from conserving the natural resources, purposeful consumption of petroleum products will promote a healthy environment as well as spur economic growth in the country, he said.
