DGAR Cup State Equestrian C’ship kicks off

The 9th Edition of the Director General Assam Rifles Cup State Equestrian Championship and the 3rd IGAR (South) Junior Equestrian Championship kicked off today in a glittering inaugural ceremony at the Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
In all 12 teams containing over 94 riders in senior, junior and young girls categories from nine different clubs are participating in the championships.
Major General UK Gurung, IGAR (S) who graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest said that it was an opportune moment to meet the riders and the sports enthusiast from different sections of the society.
He added that the championship is aimed at encouraging the game of Polo andEquestrian to discover hidden talents in a sport which is originated from the state of Manipur.
President of Manipur Equestrian Association, Dr S Joykumar, Commander 9 Sector AR Brigadier Navneet Kumar and Director of Veterinary and Animal Husbandary Services Dr Th Jeevan also attended the inaugural function as presidium members.
The functioned shocased the rich and varied cultural heritage of the state with traditional reception and Pot Lannaba.
The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a March Past of the participating teams led by the piper band of 30 Assam Rifles.
The equestrian events are scheduled in a span of 4 days and include events like Tent Peging (Team & Individual) in senior and junior categories with individual ssshow jumping in all three categories.
Imphal Riding Club, Krypsa Polo Club, Eastern Students’ Club, Nambul Mapal Polo Club, Chingkheihunba Polo Club, Manipur Police Sports Club, Meiraba Polo Club, Rupkumar Polo Club and Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club are contesting against each other in the championships.
