Imphal, January 15, 2012:
A reception function welcoming the people of the hills and the plains and Manipuris settling in different parts of the country who have arrived in Imphal to attend the observation of the 283rd Puya Mei Thaba observance was held at Sana Konung, Palace compound today.
Speaking at the function Leishemba Sanajaoba, the Titular King of Manipur said that simply observing the Puya Mei Thaba commemoration just for the sake of it will be meaningless if we do not follow our customs and traditions left by our forefathers.
It is important to understand and follow our own customs, traditions, beliefs and faiths.
If the present generation do not protect and promote our own culture, the future generation will suffer more than the present generation's suffering because of the burning of Puyas.
It is only because the Maichous had kept hidden some of the Puyas that the present society is alive till today.
The Meetei society would have disappeared by now if there were no Maichous to do the needful.
He further said that the burning of Puyas which was carried out to disintegrate the people of the hills and the plains is not only a great loss to the Meeteis but also to the whole community settling in the state.
So it is time that we all irrespective of caste and creed come out against the burning of Puyas.
The function was attended by around 200 Manipuris from Tripura, Cachar, Assam and from different parts of the state.
RV Minthing, Chairman, ICOP, Renghang Chothe, Ex-President, HERICOUN were the presidium members.
