Imphal, July 03 2014:
A new office of English daily newspaper, the Manipur Chronicle was opened today at Pureiromba Khongnang-khong, Palace Gate.
AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, former AMWJU president Dinamani Haobam and the Manipur Chronicle publisher attended the inaugural function as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai said that setting up a newspaper firm is proving to be a herculean task nowadays.
It is even more difficult to publish a daily English newspaper.
Journalists of the State are underpaid and they find it hard to survive on the meagre salaries they are paid, Shyamjai called upon all publishers to give adequate salaries to their staff.
Pointing out that opposition parties are virtually non-existent in the State, Shyamjai exhorted the media to don the role of opposition parties by dedicating their labour and time on investigative journalism.
