Imphal, July 03 2014:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed serious concern over the proposed rally of Kuki Inpi Manipur to be staged at selected places including Imphal on July 4 .
The UNC in a statement said, in good faith, UNC strongly believes that opening old wounds and creating fresh hostilities is not the wish of anyone, be it the Kukis or the Nagas.
The statement said, "The UNC strongly believes that justice for the victims, be they Kukis or Nagas, can be achieved only when the quest for such is underpinned and founded on the spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness".
But such 'sinister' efforts are being orchestrated by the communal Government of Manipur (GoM) to divide the tribal communities in Manipur further so that the hegemony of the GoM can be perpetuated, it alleged.
The GoM has gone beyond sponsoring June 18 commemoration by allowing a rally that opposes any peaceful and honourable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
The statement said, "We have always maintained that we respect and support the rights and aspirations of other communities just as we wish that ours is given its due.
The rally as given out in the media is being organised not in pursuit of any political demand but to demonise the Indo-Naga political dialogue that is to bring about a peaceful and honourable settlement" .
The United Naga Council in its Presidential Council meeting held on July 3, 2014 took serious exception to the State sponsored rally which would be staged even in Imphal and to thereby incite communal hatred and animosity.
Any unwanted incident or consequences arising out of this 'blatant' disregard for peace and harmony would be the sole responsibility of the GoM, the statement cautioned.
