Imphal, May 29 2014:
Pointing out that non appointment of transport agent/contractor in Tamenglong district by the CAF&PD dept has severely affected the people of the district, the Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN) has warned of disallowing goods-carrier trucks to cross Zeliangrong areas if the Govt continues such treatment to the people of the district.
The ZYF leaders made several attempts to meet the Minister concerned on several occasions to discus the matter though it proved futile in every attempt.
The leaders made one such futile endeavour on May 28, a statement issued by the ZYF (AMN) said.
Since the Government of Manipur failed to appoint transport agency/contractor, the agents have been lifting rice from Imphal godown to meet the public demand.
This task has necessarily become an added burden to the agents apart from incurring heavy transportation charge to reach their respective destination.
The agents in order to recoup the transportation cost have charged exorbitant price from the public thereby forcing the people to buy subsidized rice at the market price.
The Government of Manipur provided heavy security personnel to escort trucks carrying rice whenever blockade or bandh is called on National Highways.
But why does not the Government of Manipur realise that not appointing transportation agency/contractor to ferry essential commodities such as rice is nothing less than blockade or bandh imposed by Government of Manipur?, it asked.
