Ukhrul, January 22 2017:
Tangkhul frontal organisations (TFOs) under the aegis UNC continue the Government offices picketing stir severely hampering the normal functioning of the offices in Ukhrul district headquarters.
The office picketing agitation was launched by TFOs from December 31 last year in response to the call of the UNC against the decision of the State Government to create seven new districts and in demand for the release of UNC president Gaidon Kamei and publicity secretary Shankhel Stephen.
Ukhrul Mini Secretariat office complex was found guarded by volunteers of different civil society organisations today too and all Government employees have been urged not to attend office.

The stir however does not cover essential services like water, electricity, medical, telecommunications, education, etc.
Additional Central forces were seen deployed in Ukhrul town to maintain law and order and keeping a sharp vigil on the Government offices.
However attendance in Government offices has been negligible ever since the office picketing stir started more than 20 days back.
The district is also reeling under acute shortage of essential commodities due to the ongoing economic blockade.
Leaders of Ukhrul CSOs said that there is no possibility of lifting the stir in the face of the deadlock between the UNC and the State Government.
