Imphal, August 14, 2012:
Greeting the people on the occasion of Independence Day, Governor Gurbachan Jagat has called on the people to resolve to promote peace and harmony, narrow the differences and work together for the peace and progress of the State and the Nation on this day of rejoicing.
Stating that 15th August reminds the people of the pre-independence spirit and patriotism along with the unity and sacrifices made for the attainment of our freedom from the British yoke, the Governor said it is worthwhile to recall that freedom was won after supreme sacrifices by innumerable Indians at the altar of the long freedom struggle.
Though India has made significant progress in all spheres for the last 65 years of independence, much more is still to be done in order to bring the country at par with developed countries, the greeting message said while adding that the people should introspect how far the spirit of nationhood and its freedom as citizens of an Independent country has been upheld and promoted.
In this context, Manipur too should, as an important State of the country, contribute and partake of the opportunities that the changing times bestow on the country, the Governor noted.
Urging the people to reject any differences which are impeding the progress, the Governor message said the people of the State should have earnest and strong differences to achieve peace and progress in the State and contribute to human welfare.
"Today, we must work for both national coherence and emotional integrity and also for transmitting the great ideals for justice, equality and fellowship to the future generations," Governor Gurbachan Jagat said.
