Hiroshima Day observed in State

The 67th Hiroshima Day 2012 was observed today at Manipur Press Club under the aegis of Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur.
The programme was marked by observing of two-minute silence to show respect to the thousands of Hiroshima bombing victims and reading out of Peace Declaration of Matsui Kazumi, President of Mayors for Peace by founder secretary of IJFAM, Ph Nandakumar Sharma.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest, PHED Minister, I Hemochandra said the bombing at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during WW-II was so destructive that it takes long time till now to recover from the destruction.
Stating that WW-II, which is locally known as Japanese War, had inter-relation with Manipur, he urged the IJFAM to restore and maintain the cordial relation with Japan.
The occasion was also attended by Chairperson of IMC, N Raghumani and President of Indo Japanese Friendship Association, Manipur, W Bhumeshwar.
The event was also marked by distribution of prizes for Hiroshima Children's Peace Drawing Competition 2009 and 2011 and prize distribution of Children's painting competition held on August 5. The 67th Anniversary of Hiroshima Day was also observed at Manipur University's Guest House today under the aegis of MU Nihongo (Japan language) Alumni Association (MUNAA).
The observance function was attended by Prof IS Khaidem, ex-VC of MU; Prof H Tombi, former VC of MU; Dr RK Ranjan, Director CDC, MU; and Dr Khasim Ruivah, retired Deputy Registrar, MU as the chief guest and guests of honour respectively.
Fitting tribute was paid to the late Prof Makimo, a Japanese professor of MU's Japanese study during the observance programme.
