Imphal, August 06, 2012:
Amidst scarcity of food in Tamenglong district's Tousem area, rodents have started destroying rice fields in the entire Sub-Division.
The panic stricken people of Tousem have looked to the government for help.
Drawing the attention of the state government for taking up necessary remedial measures, Leikanglong Zeme, Publicity Secretary of Tousem Village Authority said, "As the rice crops have been eaten by the rodents, this year famine may occur".
Considering the woes confronting the people, the state government should take up necessary remedial measures at the earliest possible, he demanded.
Zeme observed that Tousem is one of the most underdeveloped areas.
However, the state government has not lent any ears to the woes of the people.
Apart from scarcity of food in the areas, the villagers are also facing transportation problems due to the recent collapse of Makru bridge, which connect Tousem with the district headquarters.
" The people of the area are in a state of virtual isolation from the outside world after the collapse of Makru bridge recently," Zeme informed.
