Imphal, August 06, 2012:
In one of the most shocking revelation that could put Education Department in an embarrassing position, the number of teachers in Lamphel High School is found to be higher than the number of students enrolled in the school.
It may be noted here that even if there is surplus of teachers in Lamphel High School, there are many schools in other parts of the state, especially in the hill areas where normal functioning of the government schools suffer from acute shortage of teachers and the village authorities hired private teachers to teach the students.
Lamphel High School is located at Khurai Top Khongnangkhong under Imphal East district.
Though the school has classes from VI to X, only 12 students have been registered in class VI and another 6 students in class VII.
No students have been registered in class VIII, IX and X and the total number of students in the school is just 18. On the contrary, the number of teachers posted in the school is 21 along with one Chowkidar.

When Hueiyen Lanpao conducted an inspection of the school, the signboard on which the name of the school is written, the gate as well as the fencing around the school campus was found in their worst possible condition.
Apart from this, construction works on the Library room, Computer room and Arts and Crafts room of the school under RMSA have been left uncompleted.
It was learnt there has been no headmaster in the school for a long time.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Assistant Headmaster Chirom Mani, who has been working in the school since 2006, informed that there were around 60-70 students in the school till 2008.However, with establishment of two private schools near Lamphel High School, the number of students admitted to the school declined drastically.
He recalled that earlier there were many students coming from as far as Wakha and Kshetrigao to study in the school.
But now, there is hardly any student from these areas as the road leading to the school from Wakha is bad condition and a number of private schools have also come up in Kshetrigao.
Some of the teachers of the school also informed Hueiyen Lanpao that the main reason behind decreasing number of students admitted to the school is the failure of policy and programme of the state government.
