Imphal, March 06 2020:
With petrol and diesel of BS VI standard set to be introduced all over the country from April 1, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has been working to make fuel of the same standard available in the State.
IOCL has been working to fill its Malom depot to the full capacity with petrol and diesel of BS VI before the particular grade of fuel is officially launched, informed a source.
Notably, the Supreme Court instructed all car makers in the country to switch to BS VI norm from the current BS IV by skipping BS V norm.
Both petrol and diesel contain sulphur, nitrogen oxide and other chemicals which cause air pollution, respiratory diseases and cancer.
BS IV petrol and diesel which are currently in use contain sulphur at the rate of 50 parts per million (PPM).
When the fuel is upgraded to BS VI, the sulphur content would come down to 10 PPM.
BS IV petrol and diesel contain 25 per cent and 70 per cent nitrogen oxide.
Petrol and diesel of this particular grade contain carcinogens at the rate of 10 PPM and 2.5 PPM respectively.
When BS IV fuel is upgraded to BS VI, nitrogen oxide and carcinogen contents would come down by around 80 per cent, said the source.
As the BS VI fuels would be introduced across the country from April 1, fuel of the same grade would be stocked to the full capacity of IOCL's Malom depot by March 31.In addition to the Malom depot, all ROs of IOCL would be supplied BS VI fuel before April 1, added the source.
