Imphal, January 03 2016:
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA-Ghqs) has urged all Thadous not to pay any heed to individuals with vested interest who are on a mission to create misleading notion on 'Thadou' .
In a statement.
TSA secretary general, James Haokip said that some elements are carrying out a movement called 'Reconciliation Forum' whose apparent intention is to bring about reconciliation among the Thadou speaking people by trying to project "Thadou" as only a family name.
'Their objective seems to be to find an alternate name to Thadou tribe which is already a name recognized by Govt of India and having distinct culture, language and customs,' it said.
Since, Thadou is a name recognized not only by Govt of India but also by the Govt of Myanmar and a known major tribe by the world as well, the Thadou Inpi and its affiliated organizations are of the opinion that changing a name which has been their identity since time immemorial will not be the panacea to reconciliation, understanding and unity among themselves but will rather create confusion and unnecessary chaos, the TSA statement said.
Thadou Inpi in its Thadou Conclave Delhi declaration has made its stance clear that Thadou is not to be projected and accepted on the basis of clan, family etc but is to be accepted purely on the basis of language and culture, it asserted.
It then urged all Thadous people not to pay any heed or attention to such individuals with vested interest who are on a mission to mislead the people.
TSA also wished the Thadou community members in the world and to the people of the entire Manipur a very auspicious New Year - 2016 .
