An international Indian classical dance festival (Indiclad 2010) organised jointly by Raganiketan and ISKCON Manipur will be held from February 18 till 21 at the Iskcon, Imphal premises.
Elaborating on the forthcoming event, Iskcon president and chairman of the organising committee Ajit Das told newspersons at Manipur Press Club today that the festival is being organised with an objective to promote peace and harmony in the state of Manipur through the medium of ancient dance forms.
Indiclad will feature performances by eminent classical dancers from different parts of the globe such as Asia, Europe and the United States with an aim to rejuvenate the traditional performing art forms in India as well as to bring together the five dance forms of the Indian sub-continent under one roof, he said.
Ajit Das further informed that among others reknown dancers such as Ramli Ibrahim, Sutra dancers from Malaysia, Tamanna Rehman from Bangladesh, said to be an expert and well versed in Manipuri dance, along with Guadalaraja Mahima Sandoval will perform at the festival.
moreover, former Miss India (Universe) Ekta Choudhury will be performing as a messenger of peace, he added.
Meanwhile, 'Nitya Ras' performance will be staged for the first time at Iskcon's Sri Sri Radha Krishna Chandra Mani Mandir tomorrow.
According to advisor of Thoibi dance and Cultural Research Institute (Wahengbam Leikai) Nabachandra Ningthoujam, all traditional rituals associated with the Ras that had been in practice since the time of Maharaja Bheigyachandra would be performed.
The event will be participated by 50 students of the Institute, trained for the last three months, maintained the advisor who also expressed that basic idea of the event is to spread message of peace and harmony in the State, and to inculcate in the minds of the young generation the value and rich tradition of Manipuri culture.
