Imphal, January 29 2010:
The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) today reaffirmed that the body will go ahead with the proposed five day chakka bandh and indefinite economic blockade as per scheduled announced earlier.
The SDSA announced five day chakka bandh on the Imphal-Mao section of the NH-39 effective from midnight of January 30.They have also threatened to follow up the chakka bandh by indefinite economic blockade alleging that despite repeated plea government fail to take up road improvement works on the highway passing through Senapati district.
Reiterating that the chakka bandh and indefinite blockade is against repeated failure of the state government to develop the NH-39, a statement of the students body signed by its president A Pfokrehra Khrasi today announced that the stir will go ahead as per schedule announced earlier through various local dailies.
All vehicles including private, inter-district and inter-state bus services, empty trucks and commercial vehicles will be kept within the purview of the stir but medical, religious purposes, education, fire service, military, electricity, press and other essential services will be excempted, the statement added.
Apart from seeking cooperation from the truck drivers, owners, oil tankers and other commercial vehicles plying on the Imphal-Mao section of the NH-39 to suspend their services, the body also warned them not to defy the bandh and blockade.
Responsibility of any untoward incident arising out of defying the bandh will not be borne by them, it added.
The SDSA also, while reacting to the government report published in "The Sangai Express on its January 24 edition last, questioned the transparency and motive behind the report.
It asked why the state government failed to respect those numerous agreements and assurances made to end agitations in the past on the same demand, where has the amount sanctioned every year by the Centre disappeared, why can't the Rs 39.25 crore sanctioned be used for blacktopping, why is the particular portion of the highway being kept in such a pathetic and deplorable condition, why the tender notice of state PWD issued on December 1, 2009 still pending without actual process, etc.
