Imphal, January 29 2010:
Setting its record straight triggered by the accusation hurled against it by the All Zeliangrong Students Union (AZSU) for failing to come out with a new nomenclature for the Zeliangrong apex body within the stipulated time-frame given, the Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB) today said that consultations on such sensitive and important matter and preparation of drafts for the amendment of the 'constitution' are 'time-consuming processes'.
However, the Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB) expressed its appreciation to the apex Zeliangrong students' body for its 'interest and concern' in sorting out problems besetting the Zeliangrong organisation.
Mentionably, the AZSU had accused the ZIB yesterday for not completing its task of finding a new name for the apex Zeliangrong body. The tenure of ZIB expires on January 31 which was set in the Zeliangrong Public Convention of Tamenglong last year.
Reacting to the Zelianrong students' body's accusation, ZIB secretary Azang Longmei said that the Zeliangrong Interim Body thanks the AZSU for their interest and concern in settling issues besetting the Zeliangrong organization but said that certain circumstances have been the reasons for the delay in completing its assignment.
"This is the time when every Zeliangrong should contribute ideas, opinions and suggestions to bring about lasting solution to the present problem.
The task should not be left to the ZIB alone.
It is every body's responsibility that the unity and solidarity of our people are maintained, protected and nourished.
Keeping this vein, we welcome all constructive comments and criticisms in the interest of the society.
The members of he ZIB are humbled by statement of the AZSU published in newspapers.
However, in our humble opinion, it would have been easier for all of us to clarify all the doubts had it been discussed personally with us instead of going to the media," lamented Azang Longmei.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB) gives its reasons for the delay to complete its task by the given time-frame saying that the members of the ZIB had attempted their level best to accomplish their assigned duties within limited time frame but out of 90 days, the month of December and half of the month of January are interspersed with festivals, marriage ceremonies and other programmes.
Consultations of such sensitive and important issues and preparation of drafts for amendment of constitution to please the Zeliangrong people living in three states of Manipur, Nagaland and Assam are time consuming process, was another reason for the ZIB for its inability to sort out the matter on time.
"Whatever recommendations and drafts, the ZIB is going to put up to the 2nd Zeliangrong General Public Convention to be held on February 12 at Samzuiram, Jalukie in Nagaland have been prepared within January 31, 2010," said Azang Longmei.
Azang Longmei then stated that the ZIB is ready to discuss the issues related to its functioning, its efforts and the proposed 2nd Zeliangrong General Public Convention and "we invites the co-operation of one and all to the cause of our society" .
