Legal literacy programme

A legal literacy awareness programme was held today at Keibul Lamjao Sagram Makha community hall under the joint aegis of the Wild Life Wing of Forest Department, Sangai Protection Forum, Rural Life Foundation and Environmental Social Reformation with assistance from the Bishnupur District Legal Services Authority.
The programme was attended by Bishnupur CJM Golmei Gaiphulshillu, retired Headmaster Haobijam Chaoba and Bishnupur JMIC Lankhanpao Tonsing as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Golmei Gaiphulshillu said that the evolving situation demands legal awareness among all the people.
Legal awareness would certainly help one in pursuing one's legitimate rights.
People may take help from the District Legal Service Authority in legal matters free of cost, Golmei said.
Deputy Conservator of Forest (Park and Sanctuary) L Joykumar explained about the Wild Life Protection Act 1972. He spoke in detail about the restrictions on entry in national parks and sanctuaries, poaching in such protected areas as well as the degree of punishment that may be awarded to people defying these restrictions.
Joykumar also sought people cooperation in the efforts to protect wild life.
Advocate E Amujao spoke on Right to Information 2005. Human Rights Law Network director Meihoubam Rakesh and Bishnupur district Oath Commissioner Lata also addressed the gathering.
