Imphal, January 23, 2011:
One Manipur Police personnel has been found involved in the abduction of a non-Manipuri labourer for ransom, and regrettably this is not the first case the so called guardians of the law are found involved in illegal activities.
Md Azizur (32) of Yairipok, currently posted in the Reserved Line of Imphal West Police has been taken into police custody for his involvement in the abduction of a non-local labourer.
Md Azizur was earlier a driver in both Imphal West and Imphal East Commando units.
Speaking to media persons about this startling incident today, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy said that Police Constable Md Azizur (9801193) was found involved in a case of abduction though the incident appeared to have some connections with a rape case as reported in some sections of media today.
Md Azizur and three other cohorts abducted Jitendra Prasad Yadav (18) from Motihari district of Bihar but staying at Imphal in the morning of January 18 and demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000, Dr Ng Bijoy said.
Jitendra is a mason by profession.
He was abducted by Azizur and his cohorts using an auto-rickshaw from Dharamsala area when Jitendra was going from Nagamapal to MLA Bijoy's house at Khurai where he is working.
While Jitendra was carried away in the auto-rickshaw, one of the abductors rode his bicycle.
They kept Jitendra locked up inside a room at Hatta Golapati.
On learning about the incident, Jitendra's relatives informed MLA Bijoy.
After several rounds of negotiation with the abductors, it was finally agreed that a sum of Rs 12,500 would be handed at a tea stall located beside Public Hospital, Hatta.
As per the agreement, a relative of Jitendra went to Hatta the same day.
But the relative was followed by Dr Bijoy and his security escorts some distance behind.
At about 3 pm, the MLA's security escorts managed to nab three of the abductors and they were later handed over to police.
Dr Bijoy said that he not only informed police to rescue the non-labourer but also used his security escorts for the same cause.
He asserted that Md Azizur and his cohorts were not related to any insurgent groups though they operated as a gang targeting vulnerable people particularly non-locals.
Referring to news reports as published in some local dailies today, Dr Bijoy said that Jitendra is neither 35 years old nor a head mason.
He is just 17/18 years old.
Earlier, it was accused that Jitendra raped one Sana Bibi (25) d/o Md Jamar of Kwakta Khunou but staying at Minuthong at a work site at Kwakeithel.
MLA Bijoy lamented that a police personnel acted as a mastermind in the abduction of a non-local labourer.
