Fasting teachers arrested, new team replaces

Imphal, January 23, 2011:
With the fast unto death stir of the Council of Teachers Association enters five days, police arrested the 16 striking teachers including five women teachers today.
With the 16 arrested today, 28 teachers have been sent to jail so far.
Twelve teachers had already in jail since the commencement of the fast-unto-death stir of COTA, demanding in toto implementation of the 6th Central Pay bands.
The teachers arrested today were Chanam Kumar of Lairenjam Junior High School of Sanasam Biramani, Iramsiphai Primary School, Ksh Ajit of Haoreibi Junior High School, Y Mohendro of Tharoijam Primary School, H Mukundo of Kadangban Primary School, L Kendrajit of Sagoltongba Makha Primary School, M Jadumani of Kumbi Central High School, M Surjen of Wangoi High School, A santa of Kumbi Primary School, Y Manisangbi of Naorem Kabui Primary School, L Chaobi of Phoijing No 6 Junior High School, A indubala of Khongman Mangjil Primary School, L Dayanidhi of Ningthoukhong Sardar Patel High School, A Mani of Meetei Mayek Primary School, I Bhorot and M Kumar of Madhumati High School.
Just after the arrest of the striking teachers 18 teachers including some women teachers replaced them with immeidate effect.
A press release of the COTA demanded that state government fulfiled their demands instead of arresting them.
