Govt employees call off agitations

The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organizations' (AMGEO) has decided to end the strike after the state government assured them to fulfill their demands.
The employees had launched agitation against the government regarding the non fulfillment of demands of the employees and pensioners.
Mention may be made that the employees' union has been agitating since February 21 to pressurize the state government for their demands.
The demands of the employees includes adoption of 'accepted recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission along with its benefits in toto to the State Government employees, workers, pensioners and family pensioners and payment of arears of pay and allowances and pension for 51 months starting from January 1, 2006 to March 31, 2015, the merger of 50% DA/DR with basic pay/pension as it had crossed 50% of pay as on January 1, 2011 as it was done in 2004.The state government is urged to take a decision for merger of 50% DA/DR with pay for all purposes starting from January 1, 2011 .
The other demands also include rectification of pay anomalies by adoption of 5th Central Pay with scale to scale version of pays based on ROP 1975 and corresponding adoption of 6 Central Pay, confirmation of work charge employees, conversion of casual/muster roll workers into confirmed work charge employees and regularization of all contractual employees, restoration of die-in-harness scheme as per norms prior to abolition of the scheme and payment of disturbed area allowances as the state has been declared as Disturbed Area.
It was stated that regarding the matter, senior vice chairman of All India State Government Employees' Federation along with his team of employees met with the chief minister, O.Ibobi on March 20 and took the decision, the information which was disclosed to the media today at the union's office located at Babupara, Imphal.
The chief minister, O.Ibobi had expressed during the interaction that, due to the ongoing Model Code of Conduct of the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha elections, the government has not been able to fulfill the union's demand yet.
The chief minister assured the union that after the completion of the Model Code of Conduct which falls around June, the demands cited by the JAC, would be implemented and put into action.
