MSU flays AR for harassing villagers

Maring Students Union (MSU) has strongly condemned the alleged act of harassment and torture meted out to the innocent villagers of Kampang Khullen village of Chandel district by the Assam Rifles on the evening of March 15.Two villagers were reportedly seriously injured and even women were not spared from the atrocities, according to MSU general secretary, DP.
Morung.
The two seriously injured persons were identified as one Kh.
Konai, son of (L) Kh.
Meshil, aged 50 years and Kh.
Leiupa, son of (L) Kh.
Merung, aged about 32 years.
Some other persons namely Dk.
Komar, son of (L) DK.
Morung (38), DK.
Angrung, son of (L) DK.
Morung (36), Kh.
Angkha, son of (L) Kh.
Merung (36) and DK.
Angtha, son of (L) Dk.
Morung (45) were also injured during the scuffle.
According to the Maring student body, the incident happened three days after Revolutionary Peoples Front/Peoples Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) made an attack on the Assam Rifles.
Also questioning the motive of the RPF/PLA regarding the attack on the Assam Rifles in the vicinity of the village, the students union has stated that the incident clearly shows pre-planned motive of the armed militants to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the Naga inhabited areas.
The union then condemned the torture of innocent villagers by restricting them from travelling in the inter village roads during holiday season of the students by the Assam Rifles.
'This brutal attack clearly shows the timidness and irresponsibility of the security forces', the union stated.
