Imphal, March 21 2014 :
Alleging that Leimapokpam Monesori alias Monika (18) of Thoubal Khunou Mayai Leikai, who was married to Moirangthem Bikramjit Singh (19) s/o M Manihar of Thoubal Achouba Bamon was murdered by her husband and in-laws, a JAC formed in connection with the case has called upon all concerned, particularly the Government to probe the matter and give befitting punishment to the guilty persons.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, JAC convenor M Debadas Singh said Monesori's lifeless corpse was brought to Thoubal District Hospital on March 18 morning informing the hospital authorities that she died due to hanging.
Questioning why Monesori's husband or her in-laws abandoned the body at the hospital or failed to file a report at the police station concerned, Debadas contended that the in-laws brutally murdered the young housewife and claimed her death to be a case of suicide to cover up their heinous act.
He also strongly condemned unprovoked retaliatory action by locals of Thoubal Achouba Bamon Leikai when relatives of the victim woman accompanied by JAC members went for spot inquiry.
All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association also condemning the alleged murder of Monesori demanded that suitable action be initiated against the accused persons.
According to our Thoubal correspondent, district police commandos resorted to firing in the air and tear-gas canisters to control escalation of violence when people of Thoubal Khunou Mayai Leikai went to the Thoubal Bamon Leikai residence of M Bikramjit.
Along with registering a case on the matter, Thoubal district police have pulled up Monesori's husband and in-laws and subjected them to interrogation.
Protesting death of the woman, the Imphal-Moreh route of National Highway was briefly blocked at Thoubal College area.
