Imphal, September 18 2016:
JD-U State unit has made it clear that the party is open to forging pre-poll and post-poll alliances with secular political parties.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, JD-U Manipur unit president M Tombi said that JD-U would field its candidates in every district in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is likely to be held early next year.
On being queried which parties could be possible partners of JD-U if any pre-poll or post alliances should be forged, Tombi refused to name the political parties saying that it would be premature at this point of time.
JD-U would never follow the line of employing excessive muscle power and money power during elections.
It looks like more of 'selection' than election.
Nonetheless, he exuded that JD-U would take up necessary measures to avert 'selection' this time.
Talking about the movement for protection of indigenous peoples, Tombi said that the State Cabinet should adopt a resolution to convene a special session of the State Assembly so as to pass a new Bill.
There is no guarantee that the ugly incident that took place in Tripura recently would not happen in Manipur in case there is no effective regulation to check influx of outsiders.
The objections raised by some sections of people against Bills drafted to protect all the indigenous peoples lacked rationale.
It would be advisable for the Government to convene a joint meeting of the protagonists and antagonists of the Bills, Tombi said.
The contents of the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM are unknown to the people as well as the State Government.
While hoping that the dialogue would bring peace in the region, Tombi asserted that JD-U would not tolerate any attempt to disintegrate Manipur in the name of appeasing a rebel group.
