Imphal, January 17 2016:
A 36-year-
old State artist has painted
the scenic beauty of Loktak
lake, Taj Mahal and
Mahatma Gandhi etc on
rice and dal grains with an
aim to enter his name in the
Guinness World Records.
Interacting with a
group of reporters at
Manipur Press Club,
artist Elangbam Tulu said
that since childhood, he
has loved painting and
added that he learnt the
art from teachers like
Nandi of Mayang Imphal,
Wahengbam Robin of
Kwakeithel and Maningou
of Lamphel.
Tulu said that he
regularly attends most of
the painting exhibitions
organised at different
parts of the State.
After seeing a number
of paintings and attend-
ing different exhibitions,
he began to think about
organising an exhibition
which can give a different
taste to the visitors.
Tulu said that a man
once told him that RKCS
had painted a painting on
a 300-feet high canvass.
Thinking that the said painting might be a unique one in all aspects,
an idea of developing the smallest painting in the world came to his
mind within a few minutes, he said.
That is why, he started trying his hand in micro painting,
Tulu said and added that he has painted 11 paintings on paddy,
rice and dal (Mangal Kangtak) grains so far.
He said that he first attempted to paint Mahatma Gandhi on
a rice grain in August last year.
However, he failed in his new endeavour 23 times.
In the
24th attempt, he took five hours to paint a micro image of the
father of the Nation on a grain of rice, Tulu said.
The paintings which he had painted on small grains include
catching of fish by a fisherwoman on boat at Loktak lake,
pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi
and Chief Minister Okram Ibobi on dal (Mangal Kangtak)
grains.
He had also painted Taj Mahal, Monalisa, Indira Gandhi,
Rabindranath Tagore, Mother Teresa and US President Barack
Obama on paddy grains.
The painting of Loktak lake on a rice grain measuring 6
mm is his best attempt so far, he said.
Tulu said that he normally holds a magnifying glass on one
hand and draws the painting by another hand using specially
modified painting materials.
Tulu said that he would submit his paintings to the authority
concerned for Guinness World Records.
He further said that he is planning to paint the faces of all
the 60 MLAs of the State and other famous personalities like
Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General and important structures
like Kangla Gate etc.
