launched the Intensified Plus
Polio Immunisation
programme at the Family
Welfare office today.
The
launch event was attended by
Health Minister T
Phungzathang Tonsing, Health
and Family Welfare Services,
Commissioner PK Singh,
Director Dr K Rajo and Family
Welfare Joint Director L
Menjor.
With a target of 3,52,772
children, administering of
polio drops began through
3,406 booths today.
As human beings are vul-
nerable to different types of
diseases, due preventive
measures should be taken up
from early age, Phungzathang
Tonsing said.
Crores have been set aside
by the Central Government to
improve the health sector.
The
State Government is also
working towards develop-
ment of the sector through
health programmes, he said.
Although the number of
Polio infection have remark-
ably fallen, immunisation for
the same should not be ig-
nored.
"India has been declared
Polio free by the WHO, but
we must not take risk",
Phungzathang stated.
This year, the State Gov-
ernment aims to vaccinate 3,52,772 children against Polio through the Intensified
Plus Polio Immunisation programme .
About 13,700 vaccines
have been arranged for the purpose.
In the meantime, Imphal Police Station in association with
the Department of Family Welfare held a Polio Immunisation
programme at Moirangkhom Pung.
Altogether 144 children
under five years of age were administered polio drops at the
programme.
A similar programme was held at Nilapadma Higher Secondary
School under the aegis of Sekmai police station and
Family Welfare wherein a total of 115 children were administered
polio-drops.
Personnel of Sekmai PS also distributed
victuals to the children.
At Tamenglong, the Intensified Plus Polio Immunisation
was launched at the District Hospital by Dr Chambo Gonmei,
CMO, Tamenglong.
Altogether 255 booths have been set up
to administer polio drops to a set target of 18,898 children
under 5 years of age.
