Speaking at the occasion, RK Jhalajit said Major Chongtha Mia played an important role in the 1891 battle of Khongjom.
The courage and sacrifices made by the late leader must not be ignored.
Jhalajit Singh alleged that the observance of April 23 as Khongjom War is wrong.
The correct date to observe Khongjom War should be April 25 .
The British records state that Khongjom War was fought on April 25, 1981 and on April 23, 1981 Paona Brajabashi was killed, Jhalajit said and asserted adding that it is necessary to rectify the confusion.
He further urged establishment of a committee of experts that would research the correct dates of the war.
The future generation would otherwise harbor a grudge and moreover the Britishers will laugh upon the people for being ignorant of their own history.
