Imphal, July 16:
Expressing strong resentment against the inaction of the State Govt, despite the repeated gross violation of human rights, the United Committee Manipur has today questioned whether the State is being ruled by the elected representatives or by the security personnel.
In a statement issued to the press today, UCM said that situation has reached such a level that women folks have been forced to disrobed in front of security personnel to lodge their protest against the excesses committed by the men in uniform.
Lambasting the State govt for remaining mute spectators even when the situation has taken such a turn, UCM said that the elected representatives, instead of looking into the issues confronting the people are busy fighting over portfolios allocation.
This is against the interest of the people.
Slamming the judicial inquiry ordered by the State Government to probe the circumstances leading to the death of Th Manorama, UCM said that it is nothing but a sham to rein in the rage of the people adding that such inquiry conducted in the past have been given quiet burials.
Flaying the imposition of curfew to foil the protest rally scheduled for today, the statement said that despite the curfew the attempts of the people to take out the rally proves the spirit of the people.
UCM also flayed the police action of firing tear gas shells, rubber, bullets and mockery bombs.
Expressing solidarity with the people injured and hurt in the confrontations with police today, UCM said help units have been opened at JN Hospital and RIMS to help the victims.
Killing someone after issuing arrest memo has shown that the security personnel will go to any length to exterminate the people of Manipur.
Even in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the guilty though caught red handed were tried by a Court of law before they were punished.
